There was a lot of work being done to make sure that Officer Sean Williams, the officer who killed John Crawford, was indicted. When the grand jury verdict came back not to indict, we were saddened but not surprised. We were not surprised because we know that the criminal justice system is broken.
The police in our neighborhoods are there to "Protect and Serve". But often times, in the Black community, it seems as if the police are trying to protect something else from us. This leaves us not feeling safe at all around law enforcement.
We want to fundamentally shift the relationship and power dynamics between law enforcement and community. And we are starting that by demanding that they "#ProtectUsToo".
The Ohio Student Association is in this fight for the long hall and we need resources to make sure that we can stay consistent in our efforts and continuously build momentum both statewide and nationally.
