Spirals are deeply rooted in the architecture of the universe. A universal integrity that unites all of creation. They are found in every size and substance from galaxies, tornadoes, hurricanes, high/low pressure weather systems, flowing water, plants, animals, molecules, and atoms. Spirals are the purest expression of moving energy. The spiral’s role in nature is transformation, perhaps that is why it’s path of spiritual transformation in myth and religion. The two main spirals we are most familiar with are Archimedean or Logarithmic spirals. This particular design is based on an Archimedean spiral, one whose distance from the center grows at a fixed rate; the distance between successive coils is always the same. These are encountered mostly in man-made objects such as bolts or screws, candy-cane stripes/barber poles, coiled rope, clock springs, record grooves, and paper rolls. One of its natural occurrences is in the double helix of the DNA molecule. Spirals have an eye that is its center of gravity around which it all balances. Without the eye there would be no balance for expansion or dissolution. The calm eye corresponds to the zero at the beginning. At the center of our self, in the depths of our consciousness, is a calm “I”. Like the calm eye within a storm, our center is untouched by the psychological turbulence. Whenever you find yourself off center, meditate on this harmonic diagram, find your center within and patiently allow your inner storms to subside.
