Caitlyn is a current sophomore at UNC Charlotte. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, cooking, and spending time with friends. In July of 2020, Cait began experiencing severe abdominal pain, leading to a series of hospital admissions and a diagnosis of Crohn's disease. Crohn's disease is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of and damage to the gastrointestinal tract. Cait has undergone variety of different treatments for her Crohn's, including steroids, exclusive enteral nutrition therapy, biologics, and other immunosuppressant medications. Although it is not perfect, as there is no cure to Crohn's disease, the combination of treatments Cait is currently on has helped to manage her disease. When asked for a word to describe Caitlyn and her journey, her mom chose the word "resilient", as seen on the back of the t-shirt with Caitlyn's quote: "health is not a requirement for happiness." Cait chose this quote to remind herself, and others, that it is possible to find happiness, even in unhappy situations.
